All the Best. The Deutsche Bank Collection and Zaha Hadid (Blockbuster)
1 Sep 2006 – 20 Nov 2006
Presenting over 150 outstanding works on paper and photographs including recent acquisitions never before shown to the public eye, this extraordinary exhibition is a celebration of contemporary art thinking featuring world famous artists of European moden art and international contemporary art, such as Max Beckmann, Piet Mondriaan, Joseph Beuys, Marcel Broodthaers, Georg Baselitz, Gerhard Richter, Damien Hirst, Rebecca Horn, Andreas Gursky, Nan Goldin, Marlene Dumas, Chris Ofili, William Kentridge, Kara Walker, among others.
After its great success at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin and the Hara Museum in Tokyo, the anniversary show of the Deutsche Bank Collection is now at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), the last stop in this exhibition trilogy. With this exhibition series, the world’s largest corporate collection celebrates its commitment to contemporary art, which is now entering its twenty-seventh year. Once again, London star architect and Pritzker Prize winner Zaha Hadid has designed a site-specific visionary spatial landscape especially for the Singapore show. The atmosphere of the neo-classical building, Hadid’s design for Singapore, and the outstanding works on paper make this show a spectacular ‘Work of Art’ – capturing the essence of the exhibition "All the Best".

"Telah Terbit" (Out Now): Southeast Asian Contemporary Art Practices During the 1970s
1 Sep 2006 – 12 Nov 2006
Pushing through the 1960s, where modes of abstraction were adopted as an expression of progressiveness and at the same time an instrument of international engagement, the 1970s art practices may be seen as a critique on the variants of modernity that emerged out of the processes of decolonization and independence. ‘Telah Terbit’ (Out Now) follows the progression of Southeast Asian artists and art groups such as FX Harsono and Gerakan Seni Rupa Baru (Indonesia), Sulaiman Esa (Malaysia), Cheo Chai Hiang (Singapore), Pratuang Emjaroen (Thailand), Pablo Baens Santos and Kaisahan (Philippines) as they navigate through the aesthetics of both empathy and rejection.

Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA), the first national-level photography award of its kind, aims to recognize and groom young budding photographers. To be held biennially, SYPA hopes to fan their passion and hone their skills in a bid to bring photography to greater heights.
Since the debut of the 40th anniversary photo book To Singapore with Love in 2005, this Award is yet another initiative by Kwek Leng Joo, Managing Director of City Developments Limited and an avid photographer. Bringing together the local photographic community, SYPA seeks to elevate the standard of photography and its status as an art form in Singapore.
It is hoped that developing more zealous and vibrant young photography talents will bring Singapore closer to its goal of becoming an international arts hub.
Beneath the Pavement: Discovering the City
11 February 2006 - 9 July 2006
This year-long educational exhibition invites you to experience cities which have undergone change. There is a special focus on Singapore and selected neighbouring cities in South-East Asia. Art works will tell the story of how a city unfolds, reflecting its social, physical, cultural and political aspects. Visitors will also be encouraged to reflect on what it means to be a part of the city, as well as where they fit or participate in its spaces – both private and public. It also invites visitors to think about what the city was like, before the urban sprawl and what we call urban lifestyle?:. What are our personal memories? What are our personal experiences? How do we feel about the city that has sprung up all around us almost in an instant? What areas in your city do we continue to return to again and again? How and why do we walk around a city and explore it? Will we do this differently in different cities? How can come to love and make a city our own. As a participant "Citizen", how do we belong to a city?
Walk through and reflect on an artwork that takes you down memory lane with a difference. Also appreciate art by significant Singapore and SEA artists.
