The Singapore Indian community has played a significant role in the historical, cultural, economic, and political development of modern Singapore. This site specific exhibition showcases traditional trades, professions and mercantile activities practiced by migrants from the Indian Subcontinent in Singapore from the beginning of the 19th century. More	In 1998, a shipwreck was discovered in shallow water near Belitung Island in the Java Sea. Careful study revealed this to be a 9th-century Arab merchant ship heavily laden with Chinese ceramics, gold, silver, and other precious objects from Tang dynasty China.
