The Image of Our Landscape: 19th Century Singapore through Paintings, Prints and Photographs

This exhibition organised by the National Museum of Singapore studies the various depictions of 19th century Singapore and examines their meanings and representations. The works presented will reveal the topography of Singapore’s landscape in the
19th century with views of places such as the Singapore River, Fort Canning Hill and Raffles Place.
The Image of Our Landscape will also feature about 200 artefacts from the museum’s collection, a significant number of which
were acquired in recent years and have never been displayed before.

Be transported into the world of photography with the Singapore Art Museum’s inaugural photography exhibition - TransportASIAN. Focusing on the themes of ‘Transport’ and ‘Asia’, the exhibition features works from Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand
by leading photographers such as John Clang, Xavier Comas, Nge Lay and Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba, as well as students from Singapore’s LASALLE College of the Arts.
Divided into sections representing the four fundamental considerations in photography – Time, Space, Action and Fiction, TransportASIAN documents the history of transportation as well as the photographers’ interpretations and metaphorical
explorations of the themes.
Aside from printed photos, TransportASIAN also features works in mediums such as prints, installations and multimedia. Visitors
will be invited to embrace an alternative form of photography that uses various surfaces, materials and techniques.

Presenting an in-depth investigation into the inexorable growth of the cities in India, Samit Das’ series of conceptual montages mirror the layered surface of these cities.
Samit Das is an artist who has worked with architectural structures as starting points for his creations. He has worked with photographs, collages and drawings, at times using them all in a single artwork. Samit Das’ compositions are a juxtaposition of
time and space and build upon interesting textures in his works, be it tactile or visual.
