National Archives of Singapore
Established by an Act of Parliament in 1968, the National Archives of Singapore (NAS) is mandated to serve as the official custodian of the government's corporate memory. The NAS is primarily responsible for:
- conducting a government-wide records management programme for the efficient creation, utilisation, maintenance, retention, disposal and preservation of public records;
- acquiring records of enduring administrative, legal and historical values locally and from overseas;
- establishing an oral history programme to document social memories; and
- promoting the usage of open-access archival records and oral history interviews through publications, exhibitions and heritage promotional activities.
Having gained more than 30 years of experience and expertise in records management and preservation, oral history and audio-visual programmes since its establishment in 1968, the NAS started to share its expertise and experience in 2000 by conducting training programmes and attachment visits for its regional counterparts. The key training areas that are covered include document imaging technologies, conservation techniques, records management, repository management, audio-visual archiving and oral history methodology.
