Dive deep into Asia’s rich heritage with these special weekend programmes. Learn, explore, and create with us at ACM.

Curator Insights: Jewellery of the Peranakans
with Diane Chee, Assistant Curator (Peranakan)

Join us as Diane Chee, Assistant Curator (Peranakan) discusses the place of jewellery in the attire and lives of the Peranakan communities of Southeast Asia. The talk will focus on spectacular pieces in ACM’s collection, from traditional bridal ornaments, to fashionable diamond-encrusted belts with interesting backstories!


About the Curator:

Diane Chee is Assistant Curator, Peranakan at the Asian Civilisations Museum and the Peranakan Museum. She is currently working on the revamp of the Peranakan Museum’s permanent galleries, scheduled to re-open in early 2023. She holds an MA in Asian Studies, with a specialisation in the History, Arts and Culture of Asia, from Leiden University, Netherlands.

Life in Splendour: Artist Installation by Koh Dawn 
30 November–5 December

Bringing ACM’s jewellery and textiles to life with paper art, artist Koh Dawn reinterprets the symbols and motifs on these splendorous pieces into a photo-worthy artist installation, made of paper, acrylic paint, and wires.

Snap photos of yourself and your #OOTD in front of this beautiful photo feature wall. Remember to use ACM’s IG jewellery filters for extra bling – and tag us at @acm_sg. 



Henna 101: Decorative Art Workshop with SyraSkins 

3 December, Friday, 7.30 to 9pm; Discovery Room, B1, ACM
$10 (refundable deposit); registration required on Peatix

Learn about this ancient form of body art traditionally used to adorn the skin with elaborate and detailed patterns. Participants will be guided through a brief presentation on the history and benefits of henna before learning how to draw basic motifs with henna cones to design their own patterned notebook and bookmark.

Design-a-Headdress Craft Workshop with LolliBox (Parent-and-child workshop)

Visit the shimmering headdresses displayed in our Jewellery Gallery on Level 3 at ACM and get inspired to create your own! In this parent-and-child workshop, participants will receive an array of craft materials to design and embellish a personalised, fancy head piece.

Gorgeous Gems & Crystals Workshop with Far East Gem Institute
4 December, Saturday, 2.30pm to 4pm, Online on Zoom

Learn more about the science and beliefs surrounding gemstones and crystals, with an expert gemmologist! Understand how gems and crystals are formed, what makes them so precious, and the mystic belief in their powers to heal and bring good luck.

Silversmithing Taster Workshop with Fat Anvil Studios 
5 December, Sunday, 10.30am to 1pm; Discovery Room, B1, ACM
$18 per person; registration required on Peatix

Create your own sterling silver cuff using traditional metalsmithing techniques. Expect to hand-forge a textured cuff with contoured/tapered edges and finished with high polish or antique finishing.


Each piece will be unique to its individual crafter and will be finished to a "half hardness" so it can be bent slightly for a custom fit. Come make your very own piece of handmade silver splendour.

Floral Embroidery 101: Workshop with Naked Works

Join this introductory workshop on hand embroidery techniques and materials. The workshop will guide participants through creating a floral hoop design, and participants will leave with brand new skills to embellish with embroidery!
