CURATOR INSIGHTS: THE GAME OF GO

Learn about the origins of Go, one of the Asian games on display at ACM, with Clement Onn, Senior Curator of Asian Export Art & Peranakan. PANTUN CHERKI: A PLAY ON WORDS

Enjoy Pantun Cherki, written by G.T. Lye, a recipient of NHB’s Stewards of Intangible Cultural Heritage Award, and performed alongside Chan Eng Thai, in this musical play of words known as dondang sayang.

CHERKI 101: BEGINNERS WORKSHOP
with Benita Fong

Online Workshop, $10 refundable deposit

Learn cherki, a traditional game passed down through the generations in Peranakan households. Nyonya Benita Fong will introduce you to the history and linguistic terminology of the game. You’ll learn how to play, read the cards, and tally up the scores – all in this Cherki 101 session. [Waitlist here.]

DIY PLAY: CREATE YOUR OWN GAME SET

This game board is inspired by Snakes and Ladders, one of the dice board games that has its origins in India and which was known as Mokshapat or Moksha Patam. Players moved around a board which represented life’s journies, filled with ups (ladders) and downs (snakes). [Download here.]
