The Hour Glass Limited

The Hour Glass Limited is a leading premier luxury watch retail group in Asia and an avid supporter of local heritage. At a fundraising auction organised by eminent Swiss watch manufacturer - Patek Philippe, The Hour Glass successfully won a closed auction bid for an exceptional hand- crafted cloisonné enamel dome table clock for S$1M. The “Farquhar Collection”, a one-of-a-kind exceptional creation by Patek Philippe, was inspired by the William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings, a treasured collection of the National Museum of Singapore (NMS). These works were commissioned in the early 19th century by William Farquhar, Singapore’s first Resident and Commandant. Full proceeds from the auction were donated to the National Museum of Singapore to enhance the museum’s exhibition offerings and programmes. In addition, The Hour Glass supported the Asian Civilisations Museum Gala with a cash donation, which would go towards funding the museum’s exhibitions and programmes.

The National Heritage Board is honoured to have the support of The Hour Glass. The Hour Glass’ donations have contributed to raising awareness of our nation’s rich heritage, and have been greatly beneficial in strengthening the heritage efforts of NHB.

Patek Philippe

For more than 175 years without interruption, Patek Philippe has been perpetuating the tradition of Genevan watchmaking. Thanks to its exceptional know-how, Patek Philippe maintains a tradition of innovation hailed by an impressive repertoire of more than 100 patents.

In celebration of SG50, Patek Philippe created and donated three commemorative hand-enamelled dome table clocks to the National Heritage Board (NHB). The designs of these 3 unique rare handcrafts were inspired by aspects of our local heritage -- the William Farquhar collection of Natural History Drawings in the National Museum of Singapore (NMS), the Peranakan culture and the iconic facade of the Esplanade amidst a backdrop of fireworks which captures quintessential aspects of Singapore culture. In addition, Patek Philippe hosted a gala dinner, during which the three clocks were auctioned, fetching record bids. Full proceeds of the auction were generously donated to various divisions of NHB.

With a farsighted vision to preserve local heritage for future generations to appreciate, Patek Philippe’s contribution has helped to further raise awareness of Singapore’s heritage and culture through this unique tribute to Singapore.
