National Vending Gallery: Topic No. 2 Future Past

National Vending Gallery: Topic No. 2 Future Past National Vending Gallery is an unmanned gallery that introduces and vends temporary collections that reveal the manifold influence of design gripping our lives. It is unlikely that any product presented in this collection was designed by a professional designer. Instead, each piece was shaped ingeniously by mercenary conditions, honed through unforgiving negotiations between the cost-effectiveness of mass manufacture, economic profitability, and user expectations. Sourced from the limited inventories of archaic household goods stores in Singapore, the National Vending Gallery exhibits and vends these enlightening household artefacts that are sensible and beautiful at the same time. Though having clearly been around for a long time, they provide an uncanny perspective to the future of democratic design. Very limited availability for some pieces, while stocks last.

Organised by DesignSingapore Council and supported by the National Design Centre. This event is part of the National Design Centre’s “A Future by Design” programme line-up for December 2020.
