ROOTS OF METALCRAFT

Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata, Japan

The Tsubame-Sanjo Factory Festival takes place annually in Niigata, Japan since 2013. Presented in Singapore, this exhibition is curated by method inc from Japan and commemorates the “Timeline of Metalcraft”, an extravaganza featuring the manufacturing process of various metal products, videos and a photography capsule of indigenous craftsmen and craftswomen. A highly interactive design biography brings the fine traditions of Tsubame-Sanjo artisans to contemporary life, through displays, demonstrations and moving images.

Public Programmes

Workshop: Knife Sharpening Experience

Cost: $35

Demonstration of knife production by a Japanese kitchen knife maker. This includes finishing, patterning and cutting by hand sharpening using a whetstone. Hands-on participation included.

Workshop: Hammering Copperware Experience

Experience making a small plate by hammering a copper plate and adding a favourite pattern.

Demonstration and hands-on experience of spoon and fork manufacturing using a mould.

Workshop: Copper Chopstick Rest Making Experience
