This medal and letter of commendation belonged to Mrs Leh Oorloff (née Oh Leh Neo) for her humanitarian efforts during the war, when she smuggled food like homemade condensed milk and medical supplies to the men and women at Sime Road camp. She also brought in groundnut powder mixed with crushed vitamin tablets to ease the suffering of internees stricken with vitamin deficiency diseases such as beri-beri.
