Look out for this sign to spot 6 trail stops as you explore our Level 2 galleries! Learn fun facts about the museum’s food-related artefacts and follow the instructions to complete an online quiz. When you’re done, head to the Children’s Season Info Counter at Level 2 (near the escalator) to redeem a pack of biscuits sponsored by Khong Guan!

Drop-in Craft Activity: Stamp Your Fav Food by WahSoSimple

Drop in for a colouring and stamping activity where you can choose from a variety of food-related stamps to “fill” up your tingkat container or porcelain bowl!

Draw, scratch and reveal the magical rainbow colour beneath some of the fruits featured in the museum’s William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings! You can also find out some fun facts about these fruits.

Go on a discovery journey from farm to table! Combining role-play and small world play, this activity enables children to imagine themselves as farmers, gardeners and stall owners, exploring different food environments.

Join us as a creator of This is What We Eat at Home! Go on a special guided tour of the photography showcase led by the youth of Tak Takut Kids Club! Listen to their stories as told through the food they eat at home and be inspired to share your own stories in this interactive session.

*Recommended for families with children ages 6 to 12 (parent accompaniment optional). $5 refundable-deposit is required.

This is What We Eat at Home is a participatory photography project featuring children and youth from very diverse households in Boon Lay. The showcase is at the National Museum of Singapore's Glass Atrium on level 2, near Story of the Forest, from 27 May to 25 June.

Discover a slice of Singapore’s hawker culture with Raju, Jumaat and Lim – three best friends who each run a hawker stall in Kampung Food Centre, until Raju faces a problem running his roti prata stall one day. Is the kampung spirit still alive in Kampung Food Centre? And how will Raju overcome this obstacle?

Food For Laughs: Creating a Delicious 4-Panel Comic with Food Characters by Colin Goh from Yumcha Studios

How does one create a funny 4-panel comic? In this workshop, young creators will get to see how Artist Colin Goh creates a 4-panel comic using story elements such as set-up, punchline, panels, word and thought balloons and create one of their own. Participants will pick up a very useful storytelling structure which they may use in their own narrative and composition writing.

In its 12th edition this year, the Big Eyes, Big Minds – Singapore International Children’s Film Festival continues to offer the best films from around the world to educate, enrich, and inspire kids. For the first time, this beloved children’s film festival joins Children’s Season at the National Museum with 5 film collections:

Dough-It-Yourself (DIY) Bread-making Workshop by Café Brera [SOLD OUT]

Have fun experimenting with various types of flour to make a bread dough that you can bake, taste and bring home! You can also learn about the history of how different breads were sold in Singapore and other countries in this interactive workshop.

In the spirit of environmental sustainability, learn how a dowry gift basket can be transformed to serve a variety of purposes, from delivering kueh to being a prop for games. These interactive storytelling sessions also offer opportunities for children to touch food-related objects from the museum’s handling collection, role-play as a noodle seller, and perform a short lion dance!

CS23-STEAM Workshop
Sustainable STEAM Workshops by Cultivate Central

Use upcycled materials to learn about eco-friendly practices while growing your own food! Be introduced to hydroponics as a form of farming, the science behind it, as well as food security in Singapore. Then, create your own DIY Krakty Bottle System, a simplified hydroponic system, with upcycled plastic bottles.

Bring a sapling home in your new handicraft to nurture, observe and eventually harvest the greens to enjoy!
 Choose from two workshops that include their own unique growing kits:

Grow Food, Grow Rhizomes [SOLD OUT]

Learn about the uses of local and regional rhizomes as aromatics and food, as well as for their healing properties. Then, use your kit to plant these rhizomes in a healthy potting mix!

Hop aboard the National Museum of Singapore’s ‘flight’ to discover Singapore through a travel-themed exhibition that traces the evolution of Singapore’s identity as a popular travel destination, through the eyes of those who arrived at our shores from the past to the present.

Spinning Connections

From food to performing arts, Southeast Asia’s intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is an important link to our past and intrinsic to our rich cultural identity. To pay homage to the time-honoured traditions and living expressions that define and connect us across the region, the National Museum of Singapore and the Maybank Foundation will be presenting a series of four original video artworks on the Museum’s LED Wall that showcase creative contemporary responses to the theme of intangible cultural heritage (ICH).
