Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA) organised by City Developments Limited (CDL) was incepted in 2006 as a nationwide photography competition that aims to groom young photographic talents between 13 and 25 years old. The popularity and success of this biennial event is demonstrated by the number of entries received – from just over 400 when it first started in 2006, to an encouraging 1,600 submissions this year.

The works of this year’s winners display immense ingenuity, unique artistic flair, and a maturity that belie their youth. The stringent criteria of the national competition require each deserving winner to be versatile across varied photographic genres.

This year, a special exhibition of the late Mr Kwek’s works is organised in conjunction with SYPA to remember his contributions towards elevating the standards of photography in Singapore, his legacy and lifetime commitment to serving the community.

The SYPA exhibition promises to be a visual treat of creativity and diversity.
