Inspired by our Children’s Season theme this year, we are celebrating Christmas with Stories of You & Me! Get ready for an exciting line-up of programmes for everyone.

Stories of You will explore interesting tales of different people or characters.

Listen to stories of Christmas as we go back to the 1960s and hear the tale of Emma and discover how Christmas treats were prepared in the past.

Join toy collectors Bjorn and Jian Yang as they reminisce about receiving Christmas gifts and how they started their collection. You can also learn tips on how to customise your own doll or car!

Wrap up the day with intergenerational band The Lesslars, as they present a charming performance and share their Christmas traditions and memories.

With Stories of Me, create your own festive memories at the museum.

Participate in a workshop where you and your family can make personalised Christmas wreaths to hang at home or get inspired by our artefacts and become a storyteller with We Celebrate: Christmas.

Stories of You – Emma & the Eurasian Potluck

In this interactive storytelling session based on the children’s book Emma and the Eurasian Potluck led by Roger Jenkins, take a peek into Emma’s diary on the night of 25 December 1963 as she recounts her family’s yearly midnight Christmas party. From going to Tekka Market with her mother in a hunt for ingredients to make the perfect Eurasian pie to making pineapple tarts on the charcoal oven with her sisters, join Emma in this charming tale of family, tradition and coming together as you create your very own “potluck Christmas story”!

Stories of You – A Lighter Side of History: Unboxing Christmas; A Toy Workshop

Celebrated all over the world, Christmas is a time where family and friends gather and when feasts and gift exchanges take place. In this special programme, take a drive down memory lane with toy collectors Bjorn Alvarez and Jian Yang as they share their memories of celebrating Christmas and their passion for collecting Hot Wheels toy cars and Barbie dolls. Since Christmas is the season of giving, participants can also customise their Hot Wheels toy cars and Barbie dolls that can be unique gifts for your loved ones!

Biography of Speakers
Bjorn Alvarez (also known as @drifter_d_ on social media) received his first Hot Wheels toy car at the age of three and started amassing his collection when he was in Secondary 2. The first-year university student is now a popular Hot Wheels toy car content creator, who shares his passion for this unique hobby with Singapore and the world.

Jian Yang is a 42-year-old advertising and public relations specialist, author and speaker. He is also the owner of Asia’s largest collection of Barbie dolls, as featured in the Asia Book of Records. He uses his 12,000-strong collection as a tool to create digital content on Instagram at @jianyang1979, and as a base for his proprietary craft of #FlushableFashion, where he makes doll couture out of sustainable materials.

Stories of You – Performance by The Lesslars

Hear from The Lesslars, a Singapore Eurasian band, as they share their family memories of celebrating Christmas and how their love for music began, before rounding off with a performance of Christmas tunes and original compositions, including a new single set for release in December 2021.

About the Lesslars
The Lesslars are a Singaporean Eurasian band comprising of siblings Camille Lesslar (13 years) on Vocals and Craigston Lesslar (11 years) on Drums, with the backing of mum Monica Lesslar on Bass/Keyboards and dad Chris Lesslar on Guitar.

The Lesslars are seasoned performers who began performing since 2018 and have performed at various local clubs, cafes and schools.

Get crafty this Christmas and join Urban Li’l to learn how to make a beautiful wreath together with your loved ones! Make your holidays merry and bright in this family-friendly experience while having fun and sharing in the joy of giving. Participants will get to bring home their own wreath at the end of the workshop.

Limited spaces available. This programme is recommended for both adults and families with children ages 8 and up. Each ticket includes 1 set of craft materials. Stories of Me – We Celebrate Christmas

Take a stroll in our galleries and learn fun facts about Christmas through our collection. Select one or more artefacts to create your story based on a topic which will be provided to you on the day, and share with us your unique tale via form.sg. Receive a special token from the museum when you’re done!

The top three most creative stories will receive a Christmas gift delivered right to your doorstep.

Suitable for participants aged 13 and above but parents may wish to participate in the programme with their children. Please remember to maintain safe distancing and keep your masks on at all times.

Hop aboard the National Museum of Singapore’s ‘flight’ to discover Singapore through a travel-themed exhibition that traces the evolution of Singapore’s identity as a popular travel destination, through the eyes of those who arrived at our shores from the past to the present.
