Join us in celebrating Lunar New Year with your friends and family at the National Museum! Enjoy a lion dance performance, or learn more about traditional Chinese puppet theatre and watch a live demonstration in our special edition of A Lighter Side of History.
You can also create a special festive keepsake at our drop-in craft stations, and enjoy a live music performance of Lunar New Year tunes.

A Lighter Side of History

Traditional Chinese puppetry dates back to almost a century ago, and was once a popular form of entertainment among the Chinese in Singapore. Find out more about this intangible
cultural heritage, through an interaction with young puppeteers from Sin Ee Lye Heng, the last Teochew puppet troupe in Singapore; a special presentation on traditional puppetry and its development in Singapore by Dr Caroline Chia; and a live performance by the troupe.
