Join us in celebrating Lunar New Year with your friends and family at the National Museum! Enjoy a lion dance performance, or learn more about traditional Chinese puppet theatre and watch a live demonstration in our special edition of A Lighter Side of History.
You can also create a special festive keepsake at our drop-in craft stations, and enjoy a live music performance of Lunar New Year tunes.

A Lighter Side of History

Traditional Chinese puppetry dates back to almost a century ago, and was once a popular form of entertainment among the Chinese in Singapore. Find out more about this intangible
cultural heritage, through an interaction with young puppeteers from Sin Ee Lye Heng, the last Teochew puppet troupe in Singapore; a special presentation on traditional puppetry and its development in Singapore by Dr Caroline Chia; and a live performance by the troupe.

Our colourful Early Learning Resources introduce pre-schoolers to our artefacts according to the themes of Numbers, Colours, and ABCs. Available at $8 per set from the Museum Label shop. OFF / ON: Everyday Technology that Changed our Lives, 1970s – 2000s

OFF / ON. Step into this immersive showcase and explore how everyday technological tools changed and shaped the lives of Singaporeans from the 1970s to 2000s.

Exhibition Gallery, Basement Level, 10am – 7pm. Last admission to the gallery on 30 Sept is at 1.30pm. The gallery will also be closed earlier on Saturdays, and other selected days in preparation for the Escape Room Game, with last admission at 5.30pm. The museum may bring forward the last admission timing earlier than as stipulated, in consideration of the crowd situation during peak periods especially Saturday afternoons.
