Mr Edmond Chin

Mr Edmond Chin is a long-time benefactor of the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM). Born in Singapore, Mr Chin has had a lifelong interest in jewellery and design. He became a curator, collector, head of the jewellery department at Christie’s Hong Kong and started jewellery salon Etcetera Ltd.

In 2002, Mr Chin gifted ACM with rare Southeast Asian jewellery.
He donated cash in 2019 towards the museum’s new jewellery gallery, which opened in March 2020. Highlights include a gold headdress worn by the Minangkabau, one of the few remaining matrilineal societies in the world, and a peacock belt studded with diamonds.

This is Mr Chin’s third award, having been named Distinguished Patron in 2015 and Partner in 2016 and 2019.

 


Panasonic System Solutions Asia Pacific

Based in Singapore, Panasonic System Solutions Asia Pacific is the B2B solutions division of Panasonic Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, the Southeast Asian subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation. It works with government and commercial enterprises on mobile computing, security and surveillance, retail point-of-sale, visual communications (projectors, professional displays, digital signage) and imaging network solutions (broadcast and professional video).

In 2019, Panasonic System Solutions supported the Singapore Night Festival and DigiMuse at the National Museum of Singapore.

SBS Transit Ltd

SBS Transit Ltd is a leading bus and rail operator in Singapore. Every day, more than three million passengers travel on its extensive bus and rail network.

SBS Transit has been a strong supporter of Singapore’s language campaigns. It generously contributed advertising space on its buses to the Speak Good English Movement, the Promote Mandarin Council for the Speak Mandarin Campaign and the Malay Language Council, Singapore for Bulan Bahasa (Malay Language Month).

Its media advertising platforms have allowed the language councils to effectively reach out to commuters to promote language use
 in Singapore.

Singapore Airlines Limited

Founded in 1972, Singapore Airlines (SIA) initially operated only 10 aircraft to 22 cities. It has since become a world-class international airline group with a combined network that covers over 130 destinations. It is continuously expanding in both full-service and low-cost airline operations, and this includes passenger flights run by carriers within
the SIA group, such as Scoot and SilkAir.

SIA supported the An Old New World: From the East Indies to the Founding of Singapore, 1600s–1819 exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore and Undangan ke Baitullah exhibition at the Malay Heritage Centre.

With SIA’s help, the Asian Civilisations Museum was able to bring in masterpieces from Indonesia, Beijing, Paris, the UK and Netherlands to be showcased at the Raffles in Southeast Asia: Revisiting the Scholar and Statesman and Guo Pei: Chinese Art and Couture exhibitions.

Singapore Management University

Singapore Management University was a venue partner for the Singapore Night Festival 2019, with several light installations and performances held there. These include Project: Dome, which featured five dome projection artworks; Glow Away, an SNF hashtag set against the backdrop of the National Museum of Singapore; and In:Sight, a light installation by a Vietnamese artist. The amphitheatre at the university’s Campus Green was a perfect location for various performances during the second week of the festival. Furthermore, the vast area of Campus Green allowed festival-goers to picnic with their family and friends as they watched the projection artwork at the National Museum
of Singapore.

Singapore Post Limited

Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) is Singapore’s leading provider of domestic and international postal and e-commerce logistics services. A long-term supporter of the Singapore Philatelic Museum (SPM), SingPost has partnered SPM for heritage preservation and public education programmes since the museum’s inception in 1995.

Together, SingPost and SPM hope to instil a sense of belonging and ownership in Singapore and its communities through educational tools and learning resources. SingPost’s contributions and support over
the years is a testament to its confidence in SPM as a guardian of Singapore’s heritage.

Some of SPM’s special programmes that SingPost supported in 2019 were the National Stamp Collecting Competition, Draw My Stamp Story Art Competition and A Little Magic travelling exhibition that toured libraries.

The Ryan Foundation

The Ryan Foundation is a local non-profit organisation that aims to increase arts awareness and accessibility by developing ambitious projects in Singapore and around the world.

Founded by lawyer, art collector and patron, Mr Ryan Su, the foundation serves as a lively and accessible platform in the local and regional art scene with a mission to attract new audiences to art.

It also initiates ground-up exhibitions by drawing from its collection and collaborating with institutions and collectors in its effort to
reach out with art.

In 2019, The Ryan Foundation co-presented the exhibition Unhomed Belongings with the National Museum of Singapore.

The company’s year-long support across a variety of outdoor media platforms allowed the Asian Civilisations Museum to both creatively and effectively reach out to audiences on its permanent galleries and special exhibitions. These included Raffles in Southeast Asia: Revisiting the Scholar and Statesman, Guo Pei: Chinese Art and Couture, and Living with Ink: The Collection of Dr Tan Tsze Chor.
