Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of individuals and community groups step forward to play an active role in preserving our shared heritage. The NHB Heritage Grant Scheme has provided support for these heritage enthusiasts to develop heritage-related projects that seek to preserve and promote Singaporeans’ appreciation of heritage.
The Songs We Sang 《我们唱着的歌》
By Eva Tang
The Songs We Sang 《我们唱着的歌》 by Ms Eva Tang aimed to capture and commemorate the spirit of xinyao in a 60-minute music documentary. Literally translated as "songs composed by Singapore youths" in Mandarin, xinyao was a Singaporean cultural phenomenon and flourished from 1980s to 1990s, both as a local and regional music movement. This Mandarin documentary attempts to trace the history and development of xinyao through songs, stories and memories of xinyao artists as well as lyricists, radio deejays and other familiar names in the Mandopop industry.
The film was released in cinemas in March/April 2016.
