Plastics in Our Lives Interactive Space

Recommended for families with children aged 10 years and above

Step into a home full of objects. Which of these everyday items contain plastics and which don’t? As you move through the space, test your knowledge with the interactive info nuggets and Green Detective puzzles, and reflect on the pervasiveness of plastics in your own daily life.

This interactive space is presented by the National Museum of Singapore, in conjunction with the exhibition.

Participatory Installation: Shore Debris Table

Free | Recommended for visitors aged 10 years and above due to small parts

As part of the dining room in the interactive space, take a seat at the 6-metre dining table covered with debris from the coastline of Punggol beach. Use the plate and steel tweezers to pick out microplastic fragments from the debris, learn more about microplastics from the posters along the kitchen counter, and reflect on the issue of plastic pollution and its growing impact on our food chain.

The Shore Debris Table was first presented in 2019 by Singaporean artist Ernest Goh, as part of the Ayer Ayer Project.

From Trash to Treasure: An Experiential Tour

Please arrive 10 mins before your selected time slot, and have a heavy breakfast if you are attending the morning slot.

Join us on this experiential tour and discover how plastic waste can be repurposed with concrete and potentially be used for road kerbs and drain channels!

We will begin with a 30-minute curator-led tour of NMS’s special exhibition Plastic: Remaking our World, highlighting the environmental impact of plastic and cutting-edge solutions for a more sustainable way of using plastic in our society.

Next, we head to Temasek Polytechnic’s Advanced Materials Lab for the Built Environment for an exclusive demonstration of how the plastic-concrete mix was created, and try painting our very own sustainable coasters guided by student facilitators from the American Concrete Institute (Singapore Chapter).

Price includes admission fees to the special exhibition, two-way bus transport between NMS and Temasek Polytechnic, and materials for painting your own sustainable coaster.

Plastic Remade: Eco-craft Workshop for Seniors

Note: Admission to the special exhibition is free for seniors and accompanying caregivers of PWDs. Otherwise, admission fee to the special exhibition applies.

Join us at this workshop and learn about the impact of plastic on our everyday living. Discover innovative ways to repurpose plastics sustainably with Eco Artist Didier Ng!

In this two-hour session, you will discover the various types of plastics in our lives and how they are used, through an exploration of our special exhibition Plastic: Remaking Our World and/or the interactive zone outside the exhibition. Plus, design your own bag back in the Reunion Social Space after the tour!
