COMMITTEE OF SUPPLY ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE HERITAGE SECTOR IN 2024

Launch of Heritage Activation Nodes - Update

NHB will launch Heritage Activation Nodes (HAN) in various precincts from 2024, under Our SG Heritage Plan 2.0’s Heritage x Community building block. HANs aim to provide even more opportunities for the community to participate in and co-develop projects that celebrate the unique heritage of their neighbourhoods. Under this initiative, NHB will work closely with community partners to introduce heritage programming and enhance spaces in their neighbourhoods. Singaporeans can look forward to a diverse variety of offerings such as guided heritage trails, workshops, pop-up installations and exhibitions, that are jointly created with the community. NHB will also seek to train and build the capabilities of volunteers as Heritage Champions to empower them to develop and run programmes.

NHB will be launching two HANs in 2024:

  • The first HAN will be launched in Katong-Joo Chiat in April 2024 with a weekend festival. NHB has been working with community heritage group Katong Culture, an interest group established by the Joo Chiat Community Club Management Committee (a Marine Parade grassroots organisation), as the main community partner to plan for regular heritage activities in the Katong-Joo Chiat neighbourhood.
  • The second HAN will be launched in Clementi in 2H2024. HAN@Clementi will place a strong emphasis on youth involvement, with NHB collaborating with tertiary education institutions located in the neighbourhood to achieve this.

NHB Youth Heritage Blueprint - UPDATE

A key strategy under Our SG Heritage Plan 2.0 is to deepen youth engagement in heritage, with the aim of cultivating lifelong heritage advocates through meaningful collaborations with citizens. It also demonstrates NHB’s commitment to empowering youths and instilling a sense of ownership in Singapore’s heritage and museum landscape.

NHB’s Youth Panel was established in December 2021, and comprises 35 youth from various backgrounds. The Youth Heritage Blueprint is this inaugural panel’s key project. It provides a platform for youths to share their perspectives, insights and recommendations through the creation of Singapore’s first Youth Heritage Blueprint. The Blueprint will reflect our youths’ perceptions and attitudes towards museums and heritage, and include recommendations with the aim to make NHB’s offerings more relevant and engaging for young people, and strengthen and sustain youth interest and involvement in the museum and heritage sector. The Youth Heritage Blueprint project began in January 2023, and will conclude in July 2024. More details will be shared later.
