Family Fun at the National Museum!

These March holidays, gain fresh perspectives on the diverse communities that helped to lay the foundations for Singapore’s development and those who continue to contribute to the country, as featured in the National Museum’s SG60 special exhibition, Once Upon a Tide: Singapore’s Journey from Settlement to Global City.

Try out childhood games and snacks from countries where some of Singapore’s migrant workers hail from. Enjoy a community showcase of their diverse talents and interests outside of work. And spend some quality time getting to know your family’s domestic helper better through our line-up of activities!


Blooms of Home

Blooms of Home: A National Flowers Crafting Workshop

SGD 56 per trio of adult, child and foreign domestic worker (incl. GST). Recommended for ages 5 and above.

This hands-on workshop is designed to bring families and their foreign domestic workers together through flower-making and sharing about the countries they call home. Participants will learn how to bend, twist and shape pipe cleaners into a bouquet featuring five national flowers from Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Singapore.

Games Without Borders

Experience the unifying power of play, as migrant workers from the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (HOME) facilitate childhood games from their home countries. Enjoy some friendly competition and shared laughter, and exchange stories of how similar or different your childhoods may have been!

Important Notes

  1. To allow more visitors to participate, a limited number of game coupons will be issued to each group or family. Each coupon entitles visitors to 2 games and 1 snack. Some games may also feature simplified rules.
  2. Adult supervision is required at all times. For safety reasons, the recommended age for each game is as follows:
    • Carrom and Tumbang Preso: 3 years old and above
    • Congkak, Kelereng and Tote See Toe: 5 years old and above

The Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (HOME) is a Singapore-based charity founded in 2004, dedicated to protecting the rights and dignity of low-wage migrant workers.

Discover the diverse talents and rich cultural heritage within Singapore’s migrant worker community at this vibrant showcase. Hum or sway along to heartfelt songs in native languages and traditional dance performances from different countries.

Inclusive Showcase: Clay Stories of the Singapore River

Step into the world of young artists from Northlight School and Yu Neng Primary School, who reimagined Singapore’s past through ceramic artworks after visiting our SG60 special exhibition, Once Upon a Tide.

  • From 15 to 20 March, share your reflections on the showcase and redeem a mini set of clay (8 colours) to inspire your own clay stories! Limited sets available.
  • On 15 March only (10.30am – 12.30pm & 2pm – 5pm), craft facilitators will be present to provide guidance on making a boat using the clay set.

The River Hunt

The River Hunt: A Mission-Based Artefact Hunt Activity

A Whale of a Tale Playground

Complete your fun day out at the National Museum with a visit to our intergenerational playground. Located near the front lawn, it reimagines the iconic blue whale skeleton once displayed at the museum from the early 1900s to the 1970s.
