International Museum Day

International Museum Day is celebrated annually on 18 May. With the theme of “Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion” for 2020, International Museum Day celebrates the diversity of perspectives that make up the communities and personnel of museums, and champions tools for identifying and overcoming bias in what museums display and in the stories that they tell.

To celebrate International Museum Day 2020, the Museum Roundtable embarked on a digital initiative to share how our members have played their parts in creating inclusive spaces, storylines, and initiatives for people of different needs, backgrounds, and origins. This digital initiative took place on the I Love Museums Facebook page.

These inclusive efforts are also chronicled in an e-booklet entitled “Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion Amongst Singapore’s Museums”. The booklet highlights our museums’ dedication in creating inclusive spaces and reflects the diverse stories that our museums tell. It was published on 16 November 2020, in conjunction with ICOM’s 74th Anniversary.
