NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE HERITAGE SECTOR IN 2014

Revamp of National Museum of Singapore and Asian Civilisations Museum

We are glad to share that the National Heritage Board (NHB) will receive over $35 million to support both content and infrastructural redevelopment of the National Museum of Singapore (NMS) and the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM).

The redevelopment is vital in our continued effort to grow our museums into world-class institutions with excellent offerings and meaningful experiences for Singaporeans and visitors alike. Both museums will be undergoing significant revamps with the upcoming Golden Jubilee in mind. Notably, NMS will be revamping its permanent galleries, while ACMwill explore opening up its riverfront façade to better connect the Museum with the Singapore River district.

Museum operations

The revamps at the museums will take place in phases. Gallery closure, and re-opening, will also be in stages. The earliest closure will be at the ACM in early 2014. We can expect the first galleries to be opened, at the National Museum, in the third quarter of 2015.

Both museums will continue operations as per normal during the revamps, and will continue to engage visitors with exhibitions and programming.

For more information on the revamp, as well as exhibitions and programmes available at both museums during the revamp, please refer to this document. More details of the revamps will be announced in due course.

We look forward to your support.
