About Heritage Activation Nodes

Heritage Activation Nodes

Heritage Activation Nodes Logo The National Heritage Board's Heritage Activation Nodes (HAN) initiative seeks to provide opportunities for the community to participate in and co-develop projects aimed at celebrating the heritage of their neighbourhoods.

From 2024, a series of HANs will be launched in various precincts and each HAN will provide opportunities for the community to develop and implement projects that will increase the number of heritage touchpoints in the heartlands and celebrate the heritage of their neighbourhoods. Each HAN will be unique, with programmes and activities tailored to the needs and character of the individual precincts.

Under the initiative, NHB will work closely with community partners and HAN Heritage Champions to introduce heritage programming and enhance spaces in their neighbourhoods. Community groups and HAN Heritage Champions – volunteers from that community – will also benefit from training to build up their capabilities and skillsets with the goal of enabling them to develop and run programmes on a regular and sustained basis.

Heritage Activation Node @ Katong-Joo Chiat

The first HAN will be launched in Katong-Joo Chiat in the first half of 2024. Heritage Activation Node @ Katong-Joo Chiat (HAN@K-JC) will deepen our appreciation of the vibrant neighbourhood through programmes that re-discover and celebrate the precinct’s rich culinary heritage, affiliation with diverse cultures, as well as its unique pre-war architecture.

NHB will work with community heritage group Katong Culture (KC), an interest group established by the Joo Chiat Community Club Management Committee, as the main community partner to co-create heritage projects and organise regular activities such as street festivals, guided tours, talks and other programmes that explore and celebrate the rich heritage of Katong-Joo Chiat. Other grassroots and interest groups in the neighbourhood are also welcome to partner NHB in this endeavour.
