Approved Museum Scheme

Approved Museum Scheme

Introduced in 2003, the Approved Museum Scheme (AMS) is an artefact/artwork donation scheme with the aim of encouraging cultural philanthropy and helping public bodies in Singapore augment their collections through artwork/artefact donations. This donation scheme applies to both corporate and individual donors and under this scheme, tax deduction is granted to artwork/artefact donations made to organizations with the Approved Museum status.

Museums that are accessible to the public and are registered charities can apply to the National Heritage Board (NHB) for the Approved Museum Status.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced in Budget 2009, 2010 and 2011 that all qualifying donations made in calendar years 2009 to 2021 (i.e. 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2021) would qualify for 250% tax deduction.

In Budget 2015, it was announced that in line with SG50 celebrations, the rate of tax deduction would be raised to 300% for qualifying donations made between 1 Jan 2015 – 31 Dec 2015.

The scheme has been extended for a further 2 years and donations made between 1 Jan 2022 – 31 Dec 2023 would enjoy a tax deduction rate of 250%.
